Tunisia
Stayed at Marina Palace Hotel in Yasmin Hammamet. Food and hotel very good. Staff friendly. Rooms were very clean and towels changed every day. Hotel is very close to shops and marina. Cost 3/4 dinars to go by taxi to the medina and 7 dinars by taxi to go to Hammamet. You can get a train from Hammamet to Sousse and it costs approx 13 dinars return. Market 10 mins walk from station.
Wonderful holiday, awful hotel food
We spent a week Half Board in Sousse in a hotel, which was not in the holiday brochure. Hill Diar is a nice hotel, which appears to be currently undergoing a refurbish. The hotel is located on the beach and is relatively small compared to others in the area (approx 500 rooms).
We arrived late and so missed a meal and were unable to exchange our currency, consequently we had no money for drinks. Instead we had to open a tab at the bar to be paid when we were able to pay. The problem with the hotel food was that there was no variety. If you enjoy plain pasta and shredded cabbage - for breakfast and evening meal with bread you'd have no problem!
The staff was extremely nice, however, which compensated for the poor food. Taxi's are quite cheap so its easy to get out and about from the hotel e.g the local Medina or Port el Kantoui is only 10 or so minutes away. The Sahara 2 day trip organised by the Tour Operator although exhausting was also very invigorating.
Tunisia is a place I will definitely visit again.
I went to Tunisia for just 5 days on an educational with Panorama. We stayed 2 nights in Yasmine Hammamet and 2 nights in Port El Kantoui. As we were on an educational I didnt really get to see much of Tunisia apart from a few local attractions. Cartage land in Yasmine Hammamet which is the local theme park is more designed for younger children rather than teenagers. The local medinas were a good place for bartering with the locals over goods. Overall my personal opinion of Tunisia was a beach lovers paradise and very much hotel based as it wasn't at all safe to walk out at night. Hotels which we stayed in were rated at 5* which i thought were more like 2 or 3* properties. As i am not a beach lover and would rather go out and look around a destination this wasn't really a break at all for me.
