Fantastic Honeymoon in Croatia
Croatia is a beautiful country - still mostly unspoilt and devoid of MacDonald’s, Starbucks or similar. We first spent a week relaxing in Dubrovnik. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Park as recommended by Co-Op, which was lovely and had a great time there. We then did a 1-week island cruise ending in Split. The 2nd half was organised via STA travel and so was less about luxury/comfort and more about fun but we had a great time swimming in the bright blue sea, sunbathing and partying. The weather was beautiful. A little too hot at times, but to arrive back in England where our mid-July weather is cold and rainy put it all in context!
Holiday shambles in Croatia
The title of the holiday was 'Croatian Coastal Explorer'. We paid £824 each for 7 nights, so we expected a high quality holiday. The only acceptable day was spent in Dubrovnic, where the hotel, although not without faults, was generally good, the city tour was excellent and we had free time to explore on our own in the afternoon. After that we spent hours in a coach, often getting lost, with a tour guide who was totally ill prepared and incapable of giving clear instructions. The hotel in Sibinic was the worst I've ever stayed in, we had to walk from a public car park to the hotel, our cases were brought later and dumped on the pavement, although we weren't told when they had arrived. The other hotels were reasonable, but situated away from any ammenities. Most of the time we arrived so late (due to getting lost) that we barely had time to wash and change before being rushed into dinner. The highlight of the holiday, a full day exploring the coast and islands, was cancelled, on the off chance that the wind might have been too strong, despite members of our group checking the forecast on the internet. We spent the whole day driving inland through the mountains in the rain to a park that was deemed unsuitable when we got there. When we finally got back to the coast the weather was still fine.
I could go on,(my letter to travelsphere covered 3 sides of A4) but my best advice would be just 'don't do it!
